Now in its 19th year, the Lake Norman Turkey Trot has become one of the region’s most anticipated holiday traditions, combining community spirit with competitive running. As the only half-marathon event within 150 miles of Charlotte, it attracts participants from across the Carolinas who are eager to test their endurance before sitting down to Thanksgiving dinner.
The event will be held at Life Fellowship Church in Cornelius, with start times staggered for each race: the half-marathon begins at 7:30 AM, followed by the 10K at 7:35 AM, and the 5K at 7:40 AM. Virtual runners can join from anywhere in the world, completing a distance of their choice and receiving official race swag shipped after the event.
Epic Sports Marketing describes the Turkey Trot as “a celebration of health, gratitude, and community.” Besides the competition, the event supports the Human Health Project, a charitable initiative that provides food and assistance to local shelters. Participants are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items during registration, adding a charitable purpose to the race’s festive atmosphere.

The course, set entirely on asphalt roads, offers a smooth path through Cornelius and the surrounding areas. Half-marathon participants must complete the course by 11:15 AM, allowing a generous 3-hour, 45-minute window.
This year’s race also serves as Race #3 in the 2025 Vibe-X Lake Norman Half Marathon Series, a four-event challenge for runners competing across multiple seasonal races throughout the year.
