SHANGHAI - Aug 21, 2025 - The 11th Worldwide Educators Conference 2025 (WWEC 2025) opened Wednesday in Shanghai, bringing together educators, policymakers, business leaders, and experts from around the world to discuss how education can better support national strategies and individual growth.
The three-day gathering at the Shanghai National Exhibition and Convention Center is themed “Cultivating Talent for Building a Leading Country in Education”, reflecting China’s push to strengthen the education system as part of its modernization drive.
Speakers at the opening ceremony included government advisers, education foundation leaders, and private education representatives. They emphasized that building a strong education system is not only critical for national development but also fundamental to China’s long-term goal of national rejuvenation.
Hu Wei, counsellor for the Shanghai municipal government, delivered a keynote speech on nurturing innovative talent, while Wang Hong, president of China Europe International Business School, addressed on building a more resilient and forward-looking education system in a rapidly changing global landscape. Tong Shijun, chancellor of NYU Shanghai, urged deeper global collaboration in learning, saying “the world should become our shared classroom.”
Alexander A. Mejia, a senior official with the United Nations Institute for Training and Research, highlighted the role of education in facilitating inclusive development and shaping a sustainable future. Mejia and other participants launched a joint initiative calling for fairer access to education worldwide and stronger international cooperation.
The event featured the integration of technology and education. Scholars and entrepreneurs presented advances in artificial intelligence, brain-computer interfaces, smart learning platforms and more. A new intelligent tutoring system by Future Studio was unveiled to support personalized learning.
A policy report, “AI + Education: Boosting China into a Leading Country in Education,” was jointly released by Chinese Voice Think Tank and other institutions. The report reviews how artificial intelligence is being used in education and where it is heading, and offers strategies to expand its applications in teaching, educator training and resource sharing while encouraging international partnerships.
In a blend of technology and art, a robot dance was performed by Chinese robotics company Unitree, showing how technology and the humanities can work together in education.
The conference also recognized contributions to educational philanthropy, honoring individuals involved in rural teaching programs and nonprofit foundations.
Organizers said WWEC 2025 aims to create a global platform for dialogue, innovation and cooperation in education.
