About Dr. Okan Yilmaz
Dr. Yilmaz began his journey in engineering at Bilkent University in Ankara, Turkey, where he received a Bachelor of Science in computer engineering and information science in 1992 and a Master of Science in computer engineering with a specialization in artificial intelligence in 1994.
Dr. Yilmaz served as the senior software engineer at Aydin Yazilim from 1993 to 1995 before moving to the United States to advance his career. His first position in the U.S. was as the principal software engineer at SS8, where he remained until 2003. He then worked as a senior manager of systems engineering at Neustar Inc. until 2011, when he became the vice president of engineering at SS8 Networks Inc./SS8 Federal LLC in Herndon, Virginia, a position he occupied until 2018. He worked as the technical director of engineering for Federated Wireless in Arlington, Virginia, until 2022, when he returned to SS8.
While working, Dr. Yilmaz continued to pursue his education. He received a Doctor of Philosophy in computer science from the Virginia Tech, in 2008. He considers earning a doctorate while working full-time one of his greatest achievements, a testament to his dedication to learning. The pursuit of knowledge has been vital to his success. Dr. Yilmaz later earned a Master of Business Administration with a specialization in entrepreneurial leadership from the Virginia Tech Pamplin College of Business in Falls Church, Virginia, in 2024.

In addition to his professional achievements, Dr. Yilmaz has demonstrated exceptional time management skills by serving as an adjunct professor at both the University of the District of Columbia and Virginia Tech while maintaining full-time employment in his field.
